Q: How should I use this app?
A: This app, especially the dashboard, is designed to be used in conjunction with the Tech Warfare training program and Tech Lifestyle training program hosted at www.udemy.com
Q: How much does the dashboard cost?
A: It is free with the code provided when you subscribe to either the Tech Warfare or the Tech Lifestyle training programs on Udemy.
Q: How much do the training programs cost?
A: I believe in open source and lifehacking skills, and because the programs include so many free and inexpensive tools, I decided to price these two programs at a very reasonable $25 to cover overhead and time to produce the program.
Q: What do the programs focus on?
A: Mainly two areas, one being a technical program, the other being a lifestyle program to become the most effective technologist you can be. The technical program, called BUD/S Technical Warfare, focuses on Cloud, DevOps, Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Security, Networking, and Programming. The BUD/S Tech Lifestyle program focuses on home-labs, software, tools, techniques, efficiency, and even delves into areas for top performance such as motivation, health, finance, and other life-hacks to bring out the best in your capabilities.
Q: Do you have links for all the tools and techniques you display in your program?
A: Yes, as long as you have an authenticated account and access to the dashboard acquired through the video lessons on Udemy, you may enter the Links to Technologies and Challenges located at http://bluegreenapps.com/links.html
Q: Why is this program so “militarized”?
A: I am a U.S. Navy Veteran and have found the military framework and training methodology to be the most effective way to bring discipline into all my civilian undertakings. In addition, in trying to produce a relatable program and for the gamification of it, I decided to draw on the military concept. For those of you not interested in the military concept, there will be a dashboard eventually produced that takes on an adventure game concept. You will be able to switch back and forth between the dashboards.
Q: You use BUD/s and Special Warfare a lot in this program – were you a SEAL?
A: Haha, no, not quite. I was assigned to the fleet and worked in Electronics Warfare, Cryptography and Intelligence. I was never awarded the SEAL trident (AKA the Budweiser pin). But I found in my military career that out of all the programs, the path to becoming a SEAL was the most arduous, taking about two years for a future frogman to complete. For you to complete this program fully, it will also take an estimated couple of years, but you will come out of it mastering all the areas listed above as well as many others in this course.
Q: Is this training program really that long?
A: This program is unique in that you can skip ahead to any subject you want and earn accolades through the dashboard for what you complete. But to accomplish the holistic higher-tech program using the other detailed courses I refer you to, and many of the challenges presented (which include going through code camps, obtaining certs, and building software and apps), it will take years of work to become the kind of tech unicorns (purple squirrels) you can become with this program.
Q: What is the value in this program?
A: Many of the concepts I teach and the certificate training and challenges I point you to would cost tens of thousands of dollars at for-profit academies. I tend to spend my money on tools, books, on-sale videos, and focus on self-learning rather than have someone spoon feed it to me for a week or months for tens of thousands of dollars. This program is designed to be as cost effective as possible and give you the concepts and tools to create your own program.
Q: Why don’t you teach all the concepts yourself?
A: Think of me as your platoon leader. I will be teaching overarching concepts, guiding you through the evolutions, and presenting you with challenges; however, there are specialty instructors for every phase of this Special Warfare training program. It would be impractical and damn near impossible for me to teach you route 53 concepts as well as the A Cloud Guru team, or Bayesian ML algorithms that professors at MIT teach you on the Microsoft EdX site. I introduce the concepts and give you good overviews to know what you are dealing with, but to go a mile deep I will often hand you off to specialty programs and instruction.
Q: Where did this program come from?
A: In relaying programs, websites, tools, and knowledge-sets through the years to friends and colleagues, I thought solidly in 2017 of sharing my path and knowledge in these areas. While watching one of my many Udemy courses, I realized it was an excellent medium to relay all this information. I finally decided to kickoff this program in the summer of 2018 at Georgia Tech as a project for a Master’s Degree in Computer Science Educational Technology course with the guidance of my Master’s program mentor. In learning how to effectively engage the student, I decided to add this website, a rewards-based gamification system, project plans, Trello boards, as well as the engaging techniques I use in my videos.
